Recovery of Server Data

Recovery of Server Data

In the daily operations of the majority of organizations, servers are crucial and preservation of the server data is paramount. Your business needs regular access to digital storage media to remain productive, whether you rely on a web server, accounting server, email server, database server, virtual server, or a combination of these devices.

Without a working backup, you risk unplanned downtime and high rebuilding expenses if your server breaks. The massive scale of many servers means a significant potential for serious hardware and software problems. Unfortunately, servers are as prone to failure as any data storage device.

Please select one of the quick choices below to begin.

Through a vast network of facilities, East African Data Handlers Data Recovery Services provides dedicated server repair and recovery. We make significant investments in cutting-edge technology that enables high recovery rates in a range of data loss circumstances.

In server recovery, our staff are experts. Our engineering teams have worked extensively with every major operating system and file type, and we provide expert services for both physical and virtual servers. With the help of cutting-edge technology and our extensive database of prior cases, we can quickly and effectively address any failure scenario.

Technology for Server Data Recovery

Data recovery experts require specific equipment in order to offer safe services because servers are extremely specialized storage systems.

We have a Certified Class 10 ISO 4 Cleanroom in our lab. Our professionals can securely fix hard drives and other damaged server media thanks to the dedicated, controlled environment that removes all potentially dangerous impurities from the air. Less than 10 pollutants per cubic foot are permitted under Class 10 ISO 4 regulations, and we test our Cleanroom on a monthly basis to ensure that it complies with these stringent requirements.

For virtual machines, such as VMware, Virtual Server, Hyper-V, XenServer, and many more, we also offer data recovery services. One of the first companies to provide a specific data recovery option for cloud servers was East African Data Handlers. To provide consistent recovery rates for deleted, formatted, corrupt, and other logically damaged virtual media, we employ a number of proprietary technologies.

Professional grade data recovery experts and resources are needed for complex NAS SNAP server failures. Due to their architecture, high availability cluster server systems that run critical databases or file sharing are not prone to failures, so in the event of data loss, there are no premade tools to restore the data; instead, if a Linux or Windows Veritas server fails, the majority of the tools and utilities must be developed specifically for each case. In situations like these, Secure Data Recovery comes in to save your data because the majority of local or non-specialized data recovery organizations just do not have the resources to handle such a difficult problem.

Data recovery services from East African Data Handlers have the following benefits:

A quick turnaround time: East African Data Handlers Data Recovery Services tries to minimize your downtime because server data loss can potentially jeopardize your company. Most cases are finished by our professionals in two to five days, and the typical turnaround time for our emergency services, which are available around-the-clock, is even shorter than 48 hours.

Teams with experience in server recovery: Our engineering teams have decades of combined experience with all types of high-capacity storage systems, and we provide services for both virtual and physical servers. Our experts always offer the highest possibilities of a successful data recovery, regardless of whether you have a sizable, proprietary web server or a simple email server.

Advanced Security – We hold a number of certifications that demonstrate our dedication to preserving your privacy, making us the most secure data recovery provider in the industry. PCI compliance has been validated for East African Data Handlers Data Recovery Services. Additionally, we have SSAE 18 Type II and SAS 70 certifications. As an ISSA member, we also make all of our credentials available online.

Free Diagnostics and Multiple Turnaround Options – You need trustworthy information to make important decisions on catastrophe recovery. In addition to providing you with different service levels to assist you manage downtime while keeping data recovery within your budget, our free diagnostics provide you a quick, precise turnaround estimate.

Most importantly, we are aware of the impact server loss has on your company. We give each server situation top consideration and use every available strategy to control turnaround times and recovery costs. Since we have a solid reputation for professionalism and attention to detail, we have amassed a long list of illustrious server recovery clients.

Data recovery process on servers

One of the few server recovery firms in the world with really risk-free diagnostics is East African Data Handlers Data Recovery Services. After receiving your server, we will provide you with a price estimate and a turnaround time estimate. Depending on how your server fails, our services change.

Data loss on servers frequently results from:

  • Errors in Configuration
  • Failed Migration of Data Software Updates or Installations
  • Errors in the Operating System
  • Media Physical Damage
  • RAID rebuild failure
  • Virus damage
  • User Mistake

We make any necessary physical repairs in our Certified Class 10 ISO 4 Cleanroom after gaining your permission. With years of experience working with hard drives, solid-state drives, and hybrid drives, East African Data Handlers Data Recovery Services’ server engineers can effectively repair read/write head failures and other typical mechanical issues within a few hours when using our 24/7/365 emergency service option.

To preserve the integrity of your original media, we then create an image of your server. In order to exclude any possibility of in-lab media damage, we execute recovery from the image rather than the original hardware once we can produce an exact copy of your server’s data. East African Data Handles Data Recovery Services keeps a sizable stock of RAID hardware and simulation tools, which frequently enables our engineers to repair broken servers without using the original hardware.

We check recovered data after restoring logical harm, and then we send you a copy of your files via secure FTP or external media. Depending on the size of your server and the files you requested, there are many return media alternatives. We always use SSAE 18 Type II Certified protocols and cutting-edge network technologies to secure your privacy.

You need to quickly un-mount the problematic volume or turn off the device if you can’t access data on a server. Never rebuild a failing RAID array, and never try to recover your own data. This is especially crucial if an earlier rebuild effort was unsuccessful. Rebuilding your server could overwrite data, drastically decreasing the likelihood of a complete recovery.

Continue to keep your server off and speak with East African Data Handlers Data Recovery Services about your choices. Because our engineers are familiar with all widely used server operating systems and file formats, we can assist you in selecting the best alternative for your company. We also always offer the finest option for data recovery.

Query and Response ( FAQ)

1.How can I acquire a server data recovery cost estimate?

For all kinds of servers, East African Data Handlers Data Recovery  services  provides risk-free in-lab diagnostics. After precisely identifying the issue with your media, we may generate a free price quote with an approximate turnaround time. The amount of disks in the server, the operating system, and the degree of physical media degradation are common variables that have an impact on cost.

2.How long does it take to retrieve server data?

The turnaround time varies depending on the scenario. The fastest turnaround times in the sector are provided by East African Data Handlers Data Recovery team, which provides round-the-clock emergency services with an average return time of 48 hours. For every case we get, we offer a free estimated turnaround time.

3.How can I raise the likelihood that my server will restore successfully?

To avoid more media damage, file corruption, and unintended overwrites, immediately shut down your server. The likelihood of a full recovery will increase if the media is turned off because it will keep the device in its initial state. Your server should not be rebuilt, repaired, or reinstalled anywhere other than a Cleanroom environment.

4.Does East African Data Handlers provide services for remote data recovery?

Yes. East African Data Handlers can carry out remote recovery if a server has simply logical problems, such as unintentional file deletion or data corruption that hinders common file access. On servers with physically failed media, including all RAID arrays, NAS, and SAN, remote recovery services are not accessible.

5.What qualities should I check when selecting a server data recovery business?

To recover data from servers of all kinds, businesses require sophisticated equipment and professionals with years of experience. To reduce your downtime, always opt for a reputable and certified service. Choose a service provider with Cleanroom certification and sufficient security certifications.

Leading provider of server repair and recovery services is East African Data Handlers. We run a Class 10 ISO 4 Cleanroom with SSAE 18 Type II Certification, providing the safest setting possible for recovering damaged servers.

NAS & SAN Data Recovery

SAN environments can incorporate a number of different types of computer hardware, including Network-Attached Storage (NAS) devices and RAID systems where devices communicate using the block-based SCSI protocol over dedicated Fibre Channel or Internet Protocol (IP) network. Because of its many elements, SAN architectures can be quite complex and the more complex the system, the more likely a failure can occur in one component, affecting the entire storage environment.

East African Data Handlers routinely recovers data from:

  • Single or Multiple Disk Failure
  • Failed Software or Operating System Upgrades
  • Mechanical Failure (Clicking, Buzzing)
  • Virus Attack
  • System Crash
  • Accidental Deletion of Data or Reformat of NAS Volume
  • Physical Damage (Fire, Water, Smoke, Etc.)
  • Power Surge Causing Physical or Logical Corruption
  • Data Could Not Be Viewed Due To Security System Failure

The #1 cause of unrecoverable data is due to individuals or technicians attempting data recovery on their own.

NAS is an alternative to a specialized storage area network (SAN). NAS devices are often connected to a shared general purpose local area network, reducing cost overhead, while also reducing access speed. The protocol used with NAS is a file based protocol such as Network File System (NFS) or Microsoft’s Common Internet File System (CIFS).

Most network storage systems contain more than one hard disk drive, often in a RAID configuration and are a computer by itself with its own operating system. Having a hard drive fail or even one the computer components could make it impossible for your IT department to recover the data due to the nonstandard operating system.

Unexpected failure may cause data inaccessibility or even data loss. Often this occurs between data backups or on data that has no backup at all. Utilizing proprietary data recovery technology, our data recovery specialists will recover the data you need in a timely, secure and cost effective manner. We have established a level of expertise in RAID, SAN, and NAS recovery that is unparalleled by even the manufacturers of the systems that we recover data from.

Our combination of custom software and extensive experience means we do not need your hardware or your controller to perform data recovery on your RAID, SAN or NAS storage system. We only need the drives from the sub-system. You can keep the trays, rails, cables and miscellaneous hardware. This allows you to replace the drives and start the rebuild process while we recover the data from the originals. You no longer have to wait to get your equipment back.

East African Data Handlers  offers multiple data recovery service options across Kenya for recovering lost or inaccessible data from NAS & SAN Storage devices. ie Apple, Buffalo, Dell, NetGear, Lacie, Iomega, G-Drive, HP and more.

SSD Data Recovery

Solid state drives (SSDs) offer a bevy of benefits over traditional hard disk drives (HDDs). The primary advantage of SSDs is that they use nonvolatile memory chips that improve performance and loading speed. They use less energy and are more compact, making them perfect for laptops and mobile devices that require more lightweight storage options. What’s more, SSDs differ from HDDs in that they do not have an actuator arm that writes data onto a spinning disk. This absence of moving mechanical parts decreases the likelihood of damaging the drive or disrupting data reading and writing when using storage devices in transit.

That being said, many SSD users assume their SSDs are more reliable than HDDs because their lack of moving parts should theoretically mean less opportunity on the whole for something to go wrong. Unfortunately, this is incorrect.

While SSDs have rightly earned their reputation for high-speed performance, they are not infallible. In fact, generally speaking, the longevity of an SSD seems to be pretty on par with that of an HDD. In other words, despite their many advantages, SSDs are still susceptible to memory deterioration and physical faults. Flash memory wears out over time, while capacitors, power supply, and controller chips all make SSDs prone to electrical failures.

For this reason, it’s crucial for MSPs to understand that SSDs can fail and prepare themselves with adequate precautionary measures to help customers avoid data loss. The bottom line is that SSD death can be unpredictable and unavoidable in some cases, which is why it’s best to learn about preemptive measures and SSD data recovery well in advance of a potential failure.

Through our Recovery products and services, East African Data Handlers can help clients understand and manage the challenges associated with Solid State Drive Data Recovery. ie Kingston, Samsung, WD Black & Black SSD etc.

Cyber Security

What is Cyber Security?

Cyber security is the practice of defending computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks, and data from malicious attacks. It’s also known as information technology security or electronic information security. The term applies in a variety of contexts, from business to mobile computing, and can be divided into a few common categories.

  • Network security is the practice of securing a computer network from intruders, whether targeted attackers or opportunistic malware.
  • Application security focuses on keeping software and devices free of threats. A compromised application could provide access to the data its designed to protect. Successful security begins in the design stage, well before a program or device is deployed.
  • Information security protects the integrity and privacy of data, both in storage and in transit.
  • Operational security includes the processes and decisions for handling and protecting data assets. The permissions users have when accessing a network and the procedures that determine how and where data may be stored or shared all fall under this umbrella.
  • Disaster recovery and business continuity define how an organization responds to a cyber-security incident or any other event that causes the loss of operations or data. Disaster recovery policies dictate how the organization restores its operations and information to return to the same operating capacity as before the event. Business continuity is the plan the organization falls back on while trying to operate without certain resources.
  • End-user education addresses the most unpredictable cyber-security factor: people. Anyone can accidentally introduce a virus to an otherwise secure system by failing to follow good security practices. Teaching users to delete suspicious email attachments, not plug in unidentified USB drives, and various other important lessons is vital for the security of any organization.

Cyber attacks have become common, that’s why we provide managed security services that help companies detect & respond to threats and breaches. Talk to our cyber security experts today to defend your systems & data from attacks.

Cloud and Data Backup

What is cloud backup and how does it work?

Cloud backup, also known as online backup or remote backup, is a strategy for sending a copy of a physical or virtual file or database to a secondary, off-site location for preservation in case of equipment failure or catastrophe. The secondary server and storage systems are usually hosted by a third-party service provider, who charges the backup customer a fee based on storage space or capacity used, data transmission bandwidth, number of users, number of servers or number of times data is accessed.

Implementing cloud data backup can help bolster an organization’s data protection strategy without increasing the workload of information technology (IT) staff. The labor-saving benefit may be significant and enough of a consideration to offset some of the additional costs associated with cloud backup, such as data transmission charges.

We provide a cloud based backup and recovery solution in Kenya that provides SMEs, Private Companies, Government Institution and even Individuals with offsite backup solution.

Methods of Database Recovery

Have you dropped your laptop? Is it overheating? Is your Database having issues? Do you Suspect the hard drive has Crashed?

Any information belonging to an organization is usually stored in form of a database. In case information is lost in the database, it would have major negative effects on the organization. Data recovery analysts have found out that it can cost you upto $8000 per MB to recreate client information. This is because of various costs that may be incurred such as overtime pay of re-entry, transportation costs for the client and also communication costs.

To help reduce on these costs, it would be good to employ database recovery services. It would cost a few thousand dollars but is way cheaper than the cost of recreating data. In case of data loss, some steps have to be taken in order to assure safe backup and full recovery of all lost information is done.

The first important step is to choose the most appropriate database recovery. At the moment, there are three methods of database recovery.

The first one is the simple database recovery. This method is used when a database administrator decides that the transactions are not as important as the main data of the database. In this case, one only needs to save the main data and ignore the transactions that had occurred. The data can be recreated in a short time and may not necessarily need experts to do it. But it is good not to take a chance because if one is not careful, you may end up losing all the information in the database.

The second and the third method include full recovery and bulk-logged recovery. In these two methods, one has to protect both the data in the database and all the necessary transactions relating to the database. These 2 methods are more technical and sophisticated. The have to be done with experienced technicians such as data recovery specialists. In addition, the above methods need more system requirements and disk drive space. The data recovery experts will come with the necessary software to carry out recovery. This will all depend on the scope of failure experienced. If the failure is major, then they will have to take your server and perform the recovery in their labs. Otherwise, they will just run the recovery software and will be able to recover your data.

Server recovery in Kenya

3 Signs Your Server Is About to Die:

When you are keen and paying attention to some potential warning signs in Kenya  or in any part of Nairobi or even your local town and country in Africa, Europe, Asia or America, you may be able to catch a server failure before it happens. Here are 3 signs that always make me shiver a bit when they start happening on a recurring basis. If you see these, you may want to dig into the system to see if it yields any clues. At a minimum, make sure you have some good server backups in place.

datarecoveryservercrash

When we look back over years of dealing with systems, we find spontaneous server failures rare. Before hardware failures, we often see a string of random crashes. Unlike some crashes, these crashes cannot be tied to high loads, specific processes, cron jobs or other events. The system simply dies. This is a warning sign that should not be ignored.

If you have a server management provider, be sure that they log these events. At East African Data Handlers we know many companies happily hit the reboot button and consider it resolved. This approach misses this key sign of possible server failure and prevents you from proactively fixing the issues.

If you cannot find a cause for random crashes, consider migrating to another server.

File System Issues

If the file system constantly needs checks or is going read-only frequently, your server may be dying. We’ve seen many cases where file system repeatedly go read-only for no clear reason. Even after extensive repairs, the file system quickly fails again. If you see, this then a full failure may be pending.

File system maintenance is very important to both normal operations but also disaster recovery. If you backup your server using an imaging tool, like R1Soft’s CDP server, file system issues will also be present in your backups.

If you see frequent file system corruption, consider migrating to another server.

Command Line Freezes

Another thing we’ve noticed is unexplained freezes or hangs while working at the command line. On several servers that have failed, we noticed prior to the failure odd behavior. For example, you will be running system commands and they return promptly. You re-execute the same command and find it hangs for a few seconds before running. This behavior is completely random.

If you see these freezes or hangs, you will want to rule out network or server load conditions. We’ve seen failing disks or corrupt memory cause these odd hangs. In either case, this may be another early warning sign of trouble to come.

If you see unexplained freezes at the command line, you may want to consider replacing your server.

Just Advice

This is just advice based on my 10+ years of experience of working with servers. We don’t have any hard facts and there are many symptoms for the issues above. However, when We’ve ruled out the obvious and still cannot find a cause either server crashes, file system corruption or system freezes, We get an uneasy feeling. When we get that knot in our gut, we go with it and typically recommend you change your server.

Your Gut?

Do you have any gut reactions about when a server will fail?
